The Highest waterfall in New York | Letchworth State Park




Letchworth State Park is a beautiful park with waterfalls surrounded by a very wonderful nature. The Park is located approximately 55 kilo meters southwest of Rochester and 95 kilo meters southeast of the city of Buffalo in Livingston and Wyoming Counties. The highest waterfall in New York is located in Letchworth State Park. In the park there are three large waterfalls on the Genesee River and as many as 50 waterfalls found on tributaries that flow into the Gorge formed by the river. The Genesee River in Portage Canyon crosses a stone bridge just below the lowest waterfall. The Middle waterfall is the highest, and the Upper Falls has an active railway bridge which gives panoramic views over the waterfalls. Three major waterfalls in the park called top, middle and bottom of the fall is located on the Portage Canyon, the southern part of the Park. The Park has an area of about 29 kilo meters long and include 14,390 acres of land along the Genesee River. In the park there is also a bedrock exposed in the late Devonian period, most of the pieces of several layers of limestone and sandstone. Stone has been set in the ancient inland sea and many marine fossils can be found in the Park.
